Family time can be important for raising kids and their memories of growing up. It can be a time you all look back on fondly for a long time and it can increase the quality of life.
This survey had men and women of all age ranges answer how important family was to quality of life. Up to 60% of people in certain gender and age ranges said family was important for quality of life.
One way that you can spend time together with the family is by getting together to watch some family-friendly movies.
But, what are the best family-friendly movies? How do you know what to look for?
Here are some tips for good movies for family.
Take a Survey
This is direct and to the point because it allows you to involve each and every family member in the decision process. Even if you cannot agree on one movie, you will get closer to that direction because you will have a better idea of what every member of your family wants to watch.
Let’s say that two family members want to watch a comedy but they did not say the same one. You then at least know that you might want to pick a movie in the comedy genre that would be likely to get more people to come to an agreement on the choice.
Taking a survey also acknowledges every person in your family and that will show your other family members respect that you are deciding this as a group rather than having one person make the decision.
Look at the Ratings
If you as a parent are worried about what content your children are watching, one way to help make it easier for you is to check the ratings of the movies that are available.
Each movie has its own rating and that will give you a good idea of what to expect. This ranges from G to PG, PG-13, R, and even NC-17.
Now, R and NC-17 are not likely to be movies that are friendly for younger families because those types of movies contain adult content.
Sometimes, PG-13 may not be the right choice for your family too because while it is unlikely to have nudity, it can still have select language or situations that you may not want young children exposed to.
Generally, family-friendly movies are rated either G or PG. If you find a movie that has one of these ratings, it will likely be a good fit for your family as long as the actual movie is good.
A simple way to narrow your choices down and go with a consistent bet is to stick with animated films. Almost all animated films are catered towards families and they usually are geared towards children with some jokes geared towards adults.
These are also usually more visually stunning, so it can be easier to keep a younger child’s attention if they are involved in a family movie night.
Of course, you do have to be careful in this genre because once in a while, there are animated films that are geared specifically for adults. Examples of these include The Simpsons Movie, South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut, and Sausage Party.
But, if you stick to movies made by companies that are known for catering towards kids, you can enjoy movies such as the Toy Story movies, The Lion King, Shrek, Despicable Me, and more.
Follow Certain Entertainment Groups
As mentioned above, some entertainment companies specifically cater towards the family-friendly movie genre. That can make your life easier because you know the company is reliable and that they will put out good content.
One example of this is Pitch White Entertainment. The company caters to providing good, clean family content with no inappropriate scenes for young children to see.
In the link, they describe two of the movies they have done including Funny Thing About Love and Inspired Guns.
They are just one of several entertainment companies that cater to the genre. So, if you decide to follow a certain company, you are likely going to get the content that you are targeting.
Create a Routine
The best way to make sure that your family movie night sticks is if you create a consistent routine for your family.
This starts by picking a day of the week to do this and setting aside an ideal time on that day for all parties involved. Once you figure out a day and a time that is good for everyone, your family will start a habit and plan around that day, making it easier for everyone to stick to it.
Then, once you have that planned, you can make the family movie night more memorable by creating a good atmosphere for it.
Maybe you will want to make some good popcorn in the microwave. You could all watch the movies in your pajamas and blankets before you go to bed.
If you really want to commit to this, one thing that you can do is even buy a TV or projector plus a good couch or lounge chair that is dedicated to watching movies.
Find Your Family-Friendly Movies
These are just some of the tips that you can use to not only choose family-friendly movies but create a consistent schedule to enjoy these on a regular basis. If you do it right, this can be one of those little things that your children will remember for the rest of their lives when they get older.
